HOW TO GROW SWEET POTATOES

Next time a sweet potato comes out of the cupboard for dinner, see if you can save half of it to grow some more!

To start, stick it half-submerged into a jar of water and leave it on a
windowsill in a warm, sunny spot for a couple of weeks.

Check it every once in a while and when it’s sprouted some roots and shoots, make sure it’s warm enough outside to bury it in the garden or plant it into a pot of good soil inside until Spring when you can transplant it.

Give it enough water and sun and you’ll be surprised at how fast it will grow! When it’s climbing up your wall like crazy, pluck the young tips as a
delicious addition to salads, stirfries or on toast with poached eggs!

Sweet potatoes are delicious as a root vegetable, but they are also great as greens, groundcovers and groundbreakers!

lyrics

You’re my sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata
I’m gonna eat ya later, eat ya later, eat ya later
You’re no dud spud under mud, you’re unrelated
cos you’re my sweet p’tata

Well, I see you being all shrivelled in my cupboard
Let me put you in the garden bed I think you’ll love it
Gonna leave ya underground until you make another
Little sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata

You’re a ground cover, ground cover, ground cover
Mound lover, drought tougher, you’re my sound brother
Gonna dig ya, wash ya, cook ya, eat ya for my supper
My little sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata

Yeah, you sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata
I’m gonna eat ya later, eat ya later, eat ya later
You’re my kind of dynamic accumulator
My little sweeeeeeee….

I’m gonna pluck your leafy tips
I’m gonna cut you into chips,
Maybe whip me up some dip
My little sweet p’tata

You’re my sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata
I’m gonna eat ya later, eat ya later, eat ya later
You're my saviour with the flavour that I wanna savour.
My lil sweet, sweet, sweert

You’re my sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata, sweet p’tata
I’m gonna eat ya later, eat ya later, eat ya later
Than a regular potato, you are so much greater.
My little sweet, my sweet, my sweet ptata.
